Shakti is proud and honoured to have the former Prime Minister of New Zealand, HELEN CLARK, as our Patron. She has known Shakti from inception and has been supportive of the work we do within New Zealand's migrant and refugee communities as well as the global cause of women working against violence. Helen Clark is currently the head of UNDP, at the United Nations, New York.

Shakti Ethnic Women's Support Group Inc. ( Christchurch)
History
The Shakti Ethnic Women's Support Group ( Christchurch ) is the latest initiative of Shakti outside Auckland . The support group was founded by ethnic women in Christchurch in response to the need for support services for migrant and refugee women (and their children) in South Island struggling to overcome the barriers associated with migration, isolation and domestic violence.
Mission Statement
Step by step we will work towards the well-being of all ethnic women in New Zealand
Services include
- Refuge for women and their children with emergency
- Information, referral, and emotional support services to women
- Interpretation
- Advocacy
- Domestic Violence Intervention services
- Road Safety programmes
